Great Salt Lake Sentinel Landscape
The Great Salt Lake Sentinel Landscape is a nationally designated initiative focused on protecting Utah’s iconic landscapes while supporting sustainable agriculture, military readiness, and wildlife conservation.
Centered around the Great Salt Lake—one of the most ecologically and culturally significant regions in the American West—this collaborative effort unites federal, state, tribal, local, and nonprofit partners to conserve land and water in ways that benefit both people and the environment.

Why It Matters
The Great Salt Lake region supports millions of migratory birds, essential agricultural lands, and vital military installations. But growing pressures from development, drought, and habitat loss threaten the resilience of this landscape. Through the Sentinel Landscape Program, we are working proactively to maintain healthy ecosystems, productive working lands, and compatible land use across this vital corridor.
